This time I blog about a very strange error that I have encountered two times over the last few days. They occured at different customer SharePoint farms and while doing different things it seems.
The complete error is “Updates are currently disallowed on GET requests. To allow updates on a GET, set the ‘AllowUnsafeUpdates’ property on SPWeb”.

First situation:
The farm is accessible by employees and third parties. The people outside the company can access MOSS by using a FBA (FormsBasedAuthentication) logon site. This people have to download drawings (some are large) which they have to change and upload again. At the moment they upload the drawings they receive the above error (in dutch but it is the same error).
Solution:
None so far. I’m going to try to run the FBA website with the same application pool as the AD (Active Directory) website for the internal employees, because the employees can do all this without any errors.

Second situation:
More complex I think. Let me explain the situation. In previous posts I talked about restoring a backed up SharePoint farm at a customer site. It is about this farm. At the SharePoint farm we first deployed all the solutions our developers have made and some well known like “Connected Lists” (Datacogsfieldscontrol) and “Faceted Search 2.5″. After installation of the solutions I restored the backup and started to configure the farm with all the right settings. The design of the sites is heavily changed and site templates are made including solutions (for example customized links webparts).
After performing the restore I tried to make a new publishing site based on a publishing site template. After clicking Ok the above error appeared.
Solution:
None so far. Not a clue either.

So, two errors looking the same but not connected. If I have a solution for one or both I’ll post it right away.

And please don’t be shy to post any suggestions or solutions at this site. Thanks.
